Pilgrims on their Journey

This celebration occurs every year on December 12 when millions of faithful converge on the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City. According to legend, the Virgin of Guadalupe appeared to Juan Diego, a recently converted indigenous peasant, in December 1531 on a hill above the site. Pilgrims arrive carrying candles, flowers, and statues or framed depictions of the Virgin. Many people make the final arduous approach to the shrine on their knees in order to thank the Virgin for answered prayers or to ask her for additional miracles.

Six images from were previously featured in the F-Stop Magazine Issue #65 Group Exhibition.

I’m looking forward to returning to photograph the Fiesta again this year.
