Every year since 2007, The Blue Sky Gallery has invited regional artists from Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, and Washington to showcase their photographic work in the Pacific Northwest Drawers. The call this year received a record number of entries, and jurors Dru Donovan, an artist and educator based in Portland, OR, and Efrem Zelony-Mindell, an artist and curator from New York, selected fifty-eight individuals for the exhibition. Each artist will have ten of their prints on display in the Blue Sky flat files from April 2022 through March 2023. The work of the selected artists can be seen on the Blue Sky website and in a YouTube video.
The past two years have prompted me to cull though my photographic archives, and to reflect on my travels before the pandemic. I’m delighted that my series Journey to Mumbai is included in the 2022 Blue Sky Gallery Northwest Drawers. These images show some of the people and situations that I encountered during a week that I spent exploring Mumbai ten years ago.
This is the eight time that my photography has been included in the Blue Sky Northwest Drawers. Previous years portfolios were: #RESIST (2019), The Virgin of Guadalupe (2018), Brief Encounters (2017), Holy Week in Guatemala (2016), Streets of Cuba (2015), Avoid Naples! (2014), and Return to New York (2012).
The Blue Sky Gallery is open Wednesday-Saturday from 12-5 PM, and is located at 122 NW 8th Avenue, Portland, OR 97209.
